WHO Alarms Warning Says, "Not Going To Achieve Herd Immunity In 2021"

New Delhi: World Health Organization (Who) scientists warned saying mass vaccinations roll out would not bring herd immunity to the coronavirus this 2021. Infections numbers are increasing worldwide especially in Europe where even as vaccines are rolled out.

The WHO's chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan warned on Monday that it would take time to produce and give vaccine to stop the spread of virus which has infected more than 90 million people with deaths over two million.

"We are not going to achieve any levels of population immunity or herd immunity in 2021," she said, added she said we need to maintain distancing, washing hands, sanitiser using should be adequate and mask-wearing.

Experts are stressed about the rapid spread of new variants of the coronavirus, like strain which was first detected in Britain which deadly infection and claimed to be more transmissible.

England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty told BBC: "The next few weeks are going to be the worst weeks of this pandemic in terms of numbers into the NHS (National Health Service)."

US President-elect Joe Biden, who has promised to provide all available resources to fight the pandemic, received his second vaccine dose on this Monday.
