"Samosa Caucus": New Congress Could Have More Indian-American, Says Report
New Delhi: The upcoming US elections on November 3 could very well see the expansion of the so-called "Samosa Caucus", a term coined by the Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for the informal grouping of the Indian-American lawmakers, as per the latest Congressional polls coming from the states.
The "Samosa Caucus" comprises of the five Indian-American lawmakers, including the four members of the House of the Representative and the Senator and Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris
Senior Most Dr. Ami Bera, Congressmen Ro Khanna, and Krishnamoorthi along with Pramila Jayapal, in the house of representative who is the first and the only Indian American woman in the house, are projected to be re-elected on November 3.
Mr. Jayapal is the new Congress next year is likely to have company from Dr. Hiral Tipirneni.
Al the eyes are on the Senate race in Maine, where the Democrats are pinning hope on the Indian-origin Senator Sara Gideon to win the seat against the powerful Republican Senator Susan Collins.
Gideon,48 whose father is from India and mother from Armenia has consistently maintained a lead against Collins in almost all the recent polls.
The democratic Krishnamoorthi is pitted against Preston Nelson of the Libertarian Party in the November elections from the eight Congressional Distrcit of Illinois.
