Urmila Matondkar Joins Shiv Sena She Quit Congress Last Year After Lok Sabha Election Defeat
New Delhi: Actor Urmila Matondkar, who quit the Congress after contesting last year's Lok Sabha elections, today has joined the Shiv Sena. She is likely to join the state's legislative council from the Governor's quota.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray at his residence Matoshri in suburban Bandra.She is likely to join the state's legislative council from the Governor's quota.
Her name has been forwarded to the Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari along with the name of 11 others by the state's ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi the alliance of the Sena, Congress, and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party -- reported news agency Press Trust of India quoting sources. The Governor is yet to approve the list of 12 names.
Urmila Matondkar,46 has contested the national election from the Mumbai North constituency and lost. Later she quit the congress accusing party leaders of factionalism and working against their own candidate.
