Rajasthan Politics: Ashok Gehlot Government Wins Rajasthan Trust Vote

New Delhi: In Rajasthan assembly today, the Congress government of Ashok Gehlot won a trust vote, capping weeks of turmoil over the rebel crisis that had pushed it to the edge of collapse.

Day after the Ashok Ghelot's patch up with the sacked deputy Sachin Pilot, who ended his rebellion against the CM earlier this week the vote took place.

Mr. Gehlot having established his majority in the assembly has won a six-month reprive

Just before the session started, he tweeted:  "As the Legislative Assembly session begins today, It would be the victory of the people of #Rajasthan and the unity of our Congress MLAs, it would be a victory of truth: Satyamev Jayate."

Whereas the Mayawati-led party has asked six MLAs of the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP), who crossed over the Congress in Rajasthan to vote against the Ashok government during the trust vote, which is to be held on Friday.

Updates in the story: 

1- The highlight of the debate was two significant interventions by the Sachin Pilot whose seating has been changed since he was sacked as Deputy CM. Sachin Pilot has been assigned a second-row seat closer ti the opposition  "Now I am next to the opposition. I have been sent to the sarhad (border). That is because only the bravest and strongest warrior is sent to the border," he said, responding to digs from the BJP.

2-Ashok Gehlot lashes out at the BJP saying its one-point agenda was to topple the government at the time country is fighting the pandemic. State minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal opening the debate said Ashok Gehlot taught the BJP a lesson in Rajasthan. We did not allow a Goa or Madhya Pradesh to happen here." He also quipped, without taking names, that the term "modus operandi" had become "Modi's Operandi".

3-The Gehlot camp has received a big boost after Sachin Pilot who had rebelled against the CM early in June, returned to the fold. Sachin Pilot who had rebelled against Ashok Gehlot in early July was welcomed back with the handshake by the CM at his home in Jaipur. The two leaders smiled for the cameras and have flashed a victory sign before they sat together for the meeting.

4- Sachin Pilot while homecoming" was followed a  meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday, said in the assembly that: "We consulted a doctor in Delhi and we received our cure. We are back now. We all stand united."

5- Before the majority mark of 1010 in the 200 member Rajasthan assembly Mr. Gehlot had the support of 125 MLAs.Before the rebels returned, he had 102. He yesterday made it a point to let the rebels know that he would have won even without their support."But it would not have given us joy, after all, apne toh apne hi hotey hain (family is family)," he had said.

6-Whereas BJP had 75 MLA on its side, hardly enough to challenge Gehlot on the floor of the house.

7-The BJP's Ghulab Chand Kataria, Leader of Opposition, said Mr. Pilot "was pushed out of the party" despite his work. "He did such good work on MNREGA and how did you reward him," Mr. Kataria said, looking at Mr. Gehlot. Mr. Pilot interrupted: "What is our internal matter, leave that to us. Whether there is any hurt or not, leave that to us. You focus on the trust vote."

8-Soon after the Congress announced its truce with 19 rebels, the BJP had declared that it was "reworking its strategy".

9-The six MLAs who shifted from Mayawati's BSP to the congress voted with Mr. Gehlot, defying the BSP whip.

10-Apparently BJP stuck to a strategy to put Mr. Gehlot on the backfoot and also bring out the rift within the Congress
