Rajasthan Politics: Armistice Done, Sachin Pilot To Jaipur; Upset Ashok Gehlot Heads To Jaisalmer
New Delhi: Sachin Pilot the leader of Congress party who started a rebellion against Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government after the meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, return to Rajasthan today, month after he broke ranks with the CM Ashok Gehlot.
He is expected to arrive in state capital Jaipur in the afternoon. The leader thanked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for "taking the time to hear us out". Ms Gandhi Vadra is part of the party's three-member panel that is expected to look into the rebels' grievances.
Rebelion Sachin Pilot met both Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi today for the first time since he launched his revolt a month ago in the moves towards a rapprochement in the Rajasthan Congress crisis, which has pushed the party's government led by Ashok Gehlot.
As per the sources, the term "homecoming" for Sachin Pilot's along with 18 other rebels were discussed at the meeting with Rahul Gandhi's home.
The 42-year-old, who has repeatedly denied reports that he was joining the BJP, now said, "There were some issues which we wanted to highlight. I did that".
"I had been saying since beginning that all these things were based on principle. I always thought it was essential to raise these things in the party's interest," he added.
Whereas the sources in the Congress party claims that they are on the verge of a "breakthrough" after weeks if the standoff since Mr. Pilot launched his revolt in early July.
Also, this may involve a meeting between Mr. Pilot and the Gandhis or with the Congress leaders.
As per the sources, the moves follow a meeting between Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Sachin Pilot two weeks back "at a commonplace in NCR", after which the talks were reportedly held at various levels.
However, team Pilot denied reports of the "breakthrough" and has insisted that their core issue remained Ashok Gehlot they say must be removed as CM.
The reports of the fresh attempt at reconciliation have emerged just four days before the Rajasthan assembly, where the Ashok Gehlot is likely to push for a trust vote his majority and outmaneuver the rebels.
The Chief Minister has launched multiple and sharp attacks on his 42-year-old sacked deputy accusing him of plotting a coup with the BJP.
Mr. Pilot has denied the allegation and has asserted that he has no plans to join the BJP.
In its attempts at peace-making, the Congress leadership in Delhi may face push-back from Rajasthan, where the Congress MLAs hit out at Sachin Pilot's "betrayal" in a meeting late last night.
On Sunday night a congress legislature party meeting was held at a hotel in Jaisalmer, where Mr. Gehlot flew his MLAs to guard his numbers after the August 14 assembly session date was announced.
Mr. Gehlot asked the party legislators to show their unity on the floor of the House. "We are all democratic warriors. We are going to win this war and also win the (assembly) election after three-and-a-half years," he said, addressing the MLAs.
