One of the most senior leaders of Mamata Banerjee's party was arrested today for alleged involvement in a ponzi scheme. This has bankrupted several several small investors in Bengal. Sudip Bandyopadhyay is an MP from the Trinamool Congress. After his arrest, Ms Mamata Banerjee accused PM Modi of of "Trinamool-bandi after note-bandi". Minutes after Sudip Bandyopadhyay's arrest, the BJP office in Kolkata was attacked this evening.
Sidharth Nath Singh, a BJP leader, blamed Ms Banerjee's ruling party of vandalism.
Tapas Pal, an actor-turned-politician from the Trinamool Congress was arrested last week by CBI. Ms Mamata Banerjee accused PM Modi for all these mishaps and named it as " politics of revenge."
The unregulated financial investment schemes that were run by Rose Valley - a Bengal conglomerate are investigated by CBI. The case that was filed two years ago accuses Rose Valley of stealing about 17,000 crores from investors.
According to sources, Mr Bandyopadhyay has avoided CBI's question on the nature of his links with Rose Valley. These allegations are named as unclear by Mr Bandyopadhyay.
The Trinamool Congress is planning for an emergency meeting after Mr Bandyopadhyay's arrests and even plans to initiate a protest tomorrow.
