An army major was shot dead late last night allegedly by a jawan after a dispute at a post near Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, Major Shikar Thapa of 8 Rashtriya Rifles, posted at Buchar post near Line of Control, was fired upon allegedly by Naik Kathiresan G after an altercation over some dispute. Major Thapa, cops say, died on the spot.
The reason for the dispute is still not known. Police are investigating the case.
Army officials have confirmed the fratricidal killing (killing of fellow soldier or superior), saying details were being ascertained.
The army is expected to come out with a statement later in the day.
