India pace bowler Ishant Sharma has been roped in by Kings XI Punjab as replacement for the injured opener Murali Vijay ahead of IPL season-10. The former Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler had found no takers during the February auctions after being released by the RPS [Rising Pune Supergiant] after a sub-par season in 2016.
The 28-year-old seamer unlikely IPL breakthrough comes after former KXIP captain Murali Vijay picked up injuries to his wrist and shoulder during the recently-concluded four-match Test series versus Australia. The Indian opener will require surgery on his right wrist and rehabilitation work on left shoulder, effectively ruling him out of the IPL 2017.
The former Deccan Chargers seamer was picked to play only four games of Pune's forgettable debut season in 2016, in which he took three wickets at an economy of 9.86. After being released by the franchise ahead of the tenth season, Ishant placed himself in the top bracket (INR 2 crore) at the auction but failed to find any takers
