New Delhi: In the coronavirus pandemic time sweet-loving Bengalis have something to cheer about as the government of West Bengal has decided to come out with a "Sandesh" which will include honey from the Sundarbans and increase immunity, said an official on Sunday.
To prepare the "Arogya Sandesh" cotton cheese made from the cow milk will be mixed with pure honey from the Sunderbans, which will also have some extracts of the tulsi leaves, said an official of the Animal Resources Development Department to PTI.
As per the official, no artificial flavors would be added to the sweetmeat which will be available in the department's outlet in the city and neighboring districts.
Also, the official said that the Sandesh will boost the immune system as a whole but it is not a COVID-19 antidote.
The Sunderbans Affairs Minister Manturam Pakhira said that the honey use for making Arogya Sandesh will be collected from beehives in places such as Jharkhali, Pirkhali and the other parts of the Sunderbans and it will be stored in a scientific manner.
In another two months, the Sandesh is expected to hit the shelves and the pricing will be within each of the common men, said the official of the animal resources development department.
A renowned sweetmeat chain of Kolkata earlier this month came out with an "Immunity Sandesh" claiming that it contains various herbs and spice such as tulsi, saffron, Haldi, and cardamom, and Himalayan honey, which will boost immunity to fight novel coronavirus.
There are total 17,283 positive cases of Coronavirus in West Bengal with 5,451 active cases. 11,193 people have recovered and 639 people have died in the state so far due to the infection.
