TikTok India: "In Process Of Complying" With Government, Hours After Ban
New Delhi: The TikTok India says today that it has been invited to meet the government stakeholders for a chance to clarify after it was blocked on Monday wit 58 other Chinese apps.
The TikTok India says that it “continued to comply with data privacy and security requirements under Indian law.
It also said that “if we are requested to in the future we would not do so,” asserting that it placed the highest importance on user privacy and integrity.
“We have been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications,” TikTok India head Nikhil Gandhi said in a statement.
“TikTok has democratized the internet by making it available in 14 Indian languages, with hundreds of millions of users, artists, storytellers, educators, and performers depending on it for their livelihood, many of whom are first-time internet users,” said Mr. Gandhi.
The government of India blocked 59 apps with Chinese links amid tension with the neighboring country. The apps' list included the hugely popular TikTok, Shareit, and UC Browser. The clashes between the two-nation martyred 20 Indian soldiers in action and more than 70 were injured.
