PM Modi Call For Orderly, Peaceful Transfer Of Power In US Amid US Capitol Violence
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock at the storming of the US Capitol in Washington by the supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump said the democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protest.
"Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue," PM Modi said in a tweet.
"Distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington DC. The orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests," PM Modi tweeted.
The US Capitol had to be locked down Wednesday as pro-Trump demonstrators broke down barricades outside the Capitol and swarmed inside as the lawmakers were counting Electoral College votes to certify President-elect Joe Bien and VP election Kamala Harris election victory.
As per the report, a person was shot dead inside the US Capitol amid the chaotic scenes.
The unverified videos appeared to show throngs of pro-Trump rioters breaking windows, climbing on rafters, ripping down US Flag, and roaming the Senate chamber.
The lawmakers were told to grab gas masks as police deployed tear gas inside the Rotunda, the ornate area under the dome that connects the House and the Senate, according to the Washington Post.
Across the glove the leader condemned the incident, expressing shock at the chaos unfolding in the country they once relied upon for global leadership.
"Disgraceful scenes in U.S. Congress. The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted.
"The violence against American institutions is a serious attack on democracy. I condemn it. The will and the votes of the American people must be respected," said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
