New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee today outpace Prime Minister Modi's promise to provide free grain to people till Chahath Puja usually held in November.
The Chief Minister said that in West Bengal people will receive free ration till June next year.
A Few minutes after PM Modi's address to the nation this evening Ms. Banerjee said that "Bengal will give free ration till June 2021".
Also, she claimed that "The quality of ration is better than that of the Centre," adding that "Only 60 percent people in Bengal get central rations".
Earlier today PM Modi said that the key government scheme for free food grains to 80 crore people, India's poorest would be extended to November as the country fights coronavirus.
The government plans to spend Rs 90,000 crore on expanding the free ration scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana till November.
Keeping in mind all the festivals that are coming up in the next few months, this scheme to provide 80 crore people with 5 kg free ration and 1 kg dal per month will now be extended till Diwali and Chhath Puja, or till the end of November," PM Modi said.
