Kangana Ranaut, Sister Rangoli Appear Before Mumbai Police In Sedition Case
New Delhi: Actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister have reached Bandra police station in Mumbai to record their statements in the sedition case that has been filed against them. The Bombay High Court granted them interim protection from the arrest, had asked Ms. Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel to appear before the Mumbai Police today.
Ms. Ranaut who has been provided Y-plus category security of the CRPF personnel arrived at the police station in Bandra around 1 pm along with her advocate amid the heavy media presence.
Mumbai Police had sent notice three times asking them to appear for recording their statement in the case.
The Bandra Police had registered the case against Ms. Ranaut and her sister in October following a complaint lodged against them for allegedly "trying to create hatred and communal tension" through their posts on social media
Then Ms. Ranaut and her sister had then approached the Bombay High Court seeking to cancel the FIR and the October 17 order passed by the magistrate following which the case was filed against them
The division bench of Justice SS Shinde and MS Karnik during the hearing had questioned the police for invoking the sedition charge in the case and observed it was the prime facie opinion that the charges of sedition were wrongly invoked.
"If someone does not fall in line with the government, then can sedition charges be invoked?" the court had asked.
The court will now take up the matter on January 11.

Ms. Ranaut earlier today had posted a video on Twitter saying is being unfairly targeted for daring to speak her mind. "Why am I being mentally, emotionally, and now physically tortured? I need answers from this nation... I stood for you it's time you stand for me... Jai Hind," she tweeted.
