New Delhi: Jharkhand is in second phase of assembly elections. Polling in on in 20 seats. Among the key contestants are Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who is against former cabinet colleague Saryu Rai and Congress' Gaurabh Vallabh in Jamshedpur East. Narendra Modi posted encourage voters to come out in large number to exercise their franchise.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is contesting in 14 seats, Congress us contesting in 6 seats where as BJP is contesting in 20 seats.
Apart from CM, other contesting in the second phase include Urban Development Minister Neelkanth Singh Munda, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Dinesh Oraon, former cabinet minister Saryu Rai, Water Resources Minister Ramchandra Sahis and state BJP president Laxman Giluwa.
Totat polling stations were 6,066, in which 949 have been declared "critical" and 762 "sensitive" in Maoist-affected areas. "Several of the constituencies going for this phase of polling are Maoist-affected. So, armed police have been deployed as a part of security measures," Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey quoted.
The polling will go from 7 am to 3 pm in 18 seats while two seats- East Jamshedpur and West Jamshedpur - will go to the polls from 7 am to 5 pm. Of the 20 seats, 16 are reserved for Schedule Tribe (ST) and one for Schedule Caste (SC).
BJP is seeking a second term under the leadership of CM Raghubar Das. BJP has a tough competition from JMM Congress alliance and Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). the RJD has got seven seats as per seat-sharing formula of three other parties haven't ny candidate in this round.
The second phase is critical for ruling party BJP as in some seats as former ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) is in opposition.
Tribal voters are not happy with the BJP for fielding Chief Minister Dar, a non-tribal.
On Saturday, in the first round of polling , a bridge in Bishnupur in Gumla district was blown up by Maoists where no body was injured.
