New Delhi: The Election Commission held a press conference to announce the scheduled for the Bihar assembly election. Bihar election will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3, and 7 and the results will be announced on November 10 said the Election Commission.
This time the poll booths will have 1,000 voters instead of 1,500 which will involve huge logistics and manpower.
To maintain the social distancing between the voters there will be more polling booths. In response to the political parties' demand that the election is postponed in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the EC issued a set of guidelines to be followed throughout the process.
Those with high temperature will have to vote in the last one hours of the polling process and that there will be fewer voters at the booth, said the EC's guidelines
"Over 7 lakh hand sanitiser units, about 46 lakh masks, 6 lakh PPE kits, 6.7 lakh units of faces-shields, 23 lakh (pairs of) hand gloves arranged. For voters specifically, 7.2 crore single-use hand gloves arranged," said Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora
Bihar election is the first major state election to be held in the middle of the global pandemic. By November 29, Bihar has to elect a new 243 member assembly
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar who leads a coalition with the BJP will fight for the fourth term in the polls, with the opposition RJD of jailed former CM Lalu Yadav and the Congress challenging him.
The ruling NDA includes Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United, the BJP, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party, and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha, which recently switched from the opposition alliance.
