Amarinder Singh Appeal Both Sides To Resolve Farmer Row: "Matter Of National Security"
New Delhi: The farmer's protest in and around Delhi is not an issue which only affects the economy of his state but also was a matter f concern for the "national security", said the Punjab CM Amarinder Singh as he appealed to "both sides" to resolve the issue.
"Discussion is going on between farmers & Centre, there's nothing for me to resolve. I reiterated my opposition in my meeting with Home Minister & requested him to resolve the issue as it affects the economy of my state & security of the nation," said Amarinder Singh following his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Punjab CM called on Amit Shah in Delhi and held a discussion on ways to resolve the current stand-off between the government and farmers protesting over the new farm laws. Many leaders in the ruling BJP have accused Amarinder Singh of actively supporting the protesters.
The meeting was held as the government held the second rounds of talks the week with the farmers' representatives amid the spiraling protest. On Tuesday the first meeting fell through as the farmers' group turned down the center's second pitch for the committee to discuss their objections to the farm laws.
On Wednesday the agitating farmers said today's talk will be the last chance to call an emergency session of the parliament and recall the controversial laws. The government is considering a written assurance to farmers that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system will continue.
Amarinder Singh and his Congress party have been supporting the farmer's protest and the state Assembly had also passed the set of bills aimed at negating the centre's farm legislation.
