IGNOU’s step towards the weavers- Providing free education

A proposal that Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has recently introduced for family members of weavers of two western Odisha villages (Kantapalli of Sonepur and Sagarpalli of Bargarh district) is a step taken under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The programme is meant for central government employees only. The courses will be offered free of cost.
The aim basically is to make them aware of the suitable and most recent practices in weaving and designing the clothes and dresses. Within the same programme, the gap between government offices and weavers will be bridged by Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The four courses are:-
-Computer Literacy Programme (CLP)
-NGO Management
-Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP)
-Certificate Course on Entrepreneurship
Subject matters will also be translated from English to Odia for convenience of the students. The courses are six month certificate courses while BPP programme allows entry to those who clear an entrance exam even if they have dropped out of school or college.
