NEW DELHI: The migrant workers are facing the most hurdles since when the 1st phase of Lockdown was imposed, daily wagers and underprivileged women workers are one of those migrant workers who are going back to there native villages by walking, which is causing great harm to them.
As a female, they suffer from many obstacles, not only walking for several hours but also nit getting proper food in the tough times of the month, that is when they have their periods..!!
Menstrual hygiene is one of the topic which is usually not talked about in a very open manner. People usually don't intend to talk about this topic.
Pad Man starrer Akshay Kumar has come in support of a campaign to provide sanitary pads and kits to female daily wagers and underprivilledged workers affected by the lockdown. The initiative is led by NGO Samarpan, which is a group of doctors and civil servants working to serve migrant workers and daily-wage earners, which includes women with no access to sanitary products.

The NGO Samarpan has joined hands with the police and civil administration and has also provided 2.5 million meals and dry rations for a month along with 25,000 milk packets and 19,694 sanitation kits in major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Jodhpur, Anand, Lattur and Ujjain. It has also teamed up with Kunal Kapoor and Varun Sheth’s Ketto.org to raise funds.
Dr. Ruma Bhargava, Founder of Samarpan has said to Pinkvilla, "Menstrual Hygiene is not a privilege, its a basic human right. Only 42% of women in India use sanitary pads, the reasons may be many from an inability to afford, lack of availability, lack of awareness of menstrual hygiene."
The publication also qouted Suresh Kataria, co-founder of the NGO as saying, "In absence of access to sanitary pads, women use old clothes and rugs which leads to increased chances of infection."
Samarpan aims to help 1 Lakh underprivileged women and the Pad Man actor is making it sure to do his bit.
