Delhi Metro: ITO- ‘Heritage’ Line Launched Today


The Delhi Metro on sunday open from the ITO to Kashmiri Gate section, which is also known as the Heritage Line, for the commuters. Mandi House, Ito and Janpath stations of the Central Secretariat-Kashmiri Gate corridor are operational already. Due on Monday and Tuesday Safety inspection for the remaining corridors, following which it is expected to be issued Safety certification, and for the commuters the line will be opened.




Heritage line of Delhi Metro will be flagged off at 10am on Sunday by CM Arvind Kejriwal & UD Minister M Venkaiah Naidu. before that Heritage line was opend for the media trial on Friday.





With the business hub of Delhi at Janpath the new Heritage corridor will be connected to Old Delhi areas like Delhi Gate, Daryaganj and Red Fort.





At the four Metro Stations in the area the legacy of Shahjahanabad will be showcases, using an independent theme for each of the four stations identified for this phase. The corridor has been structured thematically so that each station will offer a different glimpse of the Walled City.




By the DMRC official said that, “In March, the DMRC submitted papers pertaining to the 5.17-km long section from ITO to Kashmiri Gate to the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for scrutiny. DMRC has also submitted papers to ISA (Independent Safety Assessor) for safety certification of signalling systems. By the CMRS officials the documents have been scrutinised and an inspection has been planned. The line will be opened for public after safety certification of signalling system by ISA.”





By National Monuments Authority the Heritage Line was given the clearance on 13th February 2013.




Kashmiri Gate will emerge as the biggest interchange with the opening of this section station, as the passengers travelling on Rithala-Dilshad Garden, Samaipur Badli-HUDA City Center and Faridabad line can change from here. Rajiv Chowk, which brings to over 5 lakh commuters every day, will be decongested and DMRC is expecting it to reduce to 3.5 lakh.





On the Heritage section in August, the trial run of the Delhi Metro was started. The line will decongest the Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk and passengers will save time up to 30 minutes.
