India's Coronavirus Cases Cross 5 Lakh Mark, With Spike Of 17,000 Cases
India's COVID 19 cases surpassed the five lakh-mark on Friday, after the country reported 17,000 cases in a day.

New Delhi: Coronavirus has now infected over 5 lakh people in India and reported 17,000 cases in last 24 hours. The death toll of the country rose to 15,301 with 407 death. With 1,52,765 cases Maharashtra ranks no 1 in India's most affected states followed by National Capital Delhi with 77,240 on Friday. India ranks fourth at the worst affected countries in the world.
5,024 COVID-19 cases were reported from Maharashtra along with 175 deaths. The state has a positivity rate of 17.52 per cent and death rate of 4.65 per cent. State Capital Mumbai's coronavirus tally reached 72,175 cases on Friday. National Capital Delhi which emerged as worst affected city of India, reported 3,460 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu follows Mumbai and Delhi's lead and ranked third in India's coronavirus list. The state reported 3,509 new cases tallying the total cases to 70,977. The death toll of the state stands at 911.West Bengal witnessed highest number of cases in a single day, with 542 fresh infections. Bengal's total now is 16,190.
The country's 54.47 per cent of the total cases is contributed by Delhi, Chennai, Thane, Mumbai, Palghar, Pune, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Ahmedabad and Faridabad.
India's most affected states will receive the first batch of the generic version of the experimental Coronavirus drug Remdesivir. The states include, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Hyderabad based pharmaceutical company Hetero will produce the medicine.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the efforts of people in combating coronavirus. He said, "England, France, Italy and Spain - these countries at one time had conquered the world and were the biggest powers of the world, but if you add up the populations of all these countries it comes to 24 crore, but in India, UP alone has 24 crore. How effective UP has been can be seen from the fact that the four European nations together had 1,30,000 deaths due to COVID-19. But in UP, the number of deaths is 600."
Coronavirus has infected more than 96.04 lakh people globally, with more than 490K deaths.
