India's COVID19 Tally Crosses 63-Lakh Mark With Spike Of 86,821 New Cases
New Delhi: India recorded 86,821 new coronavirus cases and 1,181 deaths in the last 24 hours taking its coronavirus tally past the 63 lakh mark, as per the data released by the Health Ministry this morning.
The country now accounts 63,12,585 cases of coronavirus,including 9,40,705 actives case,52.7 lakh recoveries and 98,678 deaths. At 85,376, India recorded fewer one-day recoveries than new cases.
The overall recovery rate in the country is 83.5 percent. Its daily positivity rate was 6.1 percent and the fatality rate is 1.6 percent.
"High levels of testing lead to early identification, prompt isolation, and effective treatment of COVID-19. This has resulted in sustained low fatality rate," the Health Ministry tweeted.
Maharashtra the state with most coronavirus cases witnessed 481 deaths on Wednesday lower than the top peak of 515 reported on September 15 -- taking the state's death toll to 36,662.
Maharashtra recorded 18,317 new cases on Wednesday, less than the highest single-day spike of 24,886 cases recorded on September 11, pushing up the state's tally to 13,84,446.
The ministry of home affairs has announced detailed guidelines for Unlock 5, or for reopening to be effective from October 1, shortly.
The home ministry despite a steep rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the county, however, the ministry has made it clear that there would be more relaxed and fewer restrictions, though local administration in some states is heavily relying on the voluntary curfew, local lockdowns, etc.
The World Bank has asked its boards of directors to approve 12 billion to help poor countries purchase and distribute eventual vaccines against coronavirus. "An effective and safe Covid-19 vaccine is the most promising path forward for the world to reopen safely. The global economy will not recover fully until people feel they can live, socialize, work and travel with confidence," a World Bank spokesman said. The funds would be disbursed over 12-18 months.
