Massimiliano Allegri’s team Juventus have well and truly established themselves as a force to surmise with in Europe and now according to reports in Italy, they have agreed a €25 million deal for Barcelona playmaker Rafinha. The La Masia graduate has had 33 appearances this season for Barca, but he has failed to build himself as a regular starter. According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Old Lady are ready to give the Brazil International an extended run in the first team.
The €25 million sum offered for the 24-year-old is exactly the sum Carlo Ancelotti’s team Bayern Munich offered Barcelona to sign his brother Thiago. Thiago Alcantara has gone on to become one of the best playmkers in Europe at the moment and Rafinha will be hoping to pursue in his brother’s footsteps.
The former Celta Vigo midfielder has continuously been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou with briefs suggesting that the Catalan giants want to overhaul their midfield in the summer transfer window.
The Champions League finalists [Juventus] have shown that they make some astute signings in the transfer market. Although selling star midfielder Paul Pogba to Manchester United, the Old Lady have not taken a step back as he was able replaced by Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic. And the former AS Roma playmker has repaid their faith – ensuring that the Turin cyclops do not miss the world’s most expensive footballer.
However, although Juventus have had a stellar campaign, there is no refusing the fact that their midfield walled by the likes of Marchisio and Khedira is slightly ageing and some fresh legs and buoyancy will definitely add another aspect to their already excellent team.
Also, even though the Luis Enrique’s side were keen on a swap deal involving Rafinha and Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, The Red’s reluctance to sell their star man has seen the Catalan giants agree on a deal with Juventus for their playmaker.
A lot of Barcelona’s transfer activity will depend on who the new manager will be. Also, the Catalan giants will be alert of making the same omission as they made with Thiago Alcantara and it will be interesting to see if they do indeed end up selling the talented playmaker to Juventus.
