An IndiGo and a SpiceJet aircraft came face-to-face at Delhi’s IGI airport this morning, frightening authorities and passengers. The two aircraft came very close to each other just when the IndiGo flight arrived from Lucknow with 160 passengers and the SpiceJet flight with 187 on board was about to take off for Hyderabad. According to officials, the IndiGo flight pilot saw the other plane all of a sudden and applied brakes.
According to sources, there was miscommunication with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower. The investigation has been started by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the safety regulator.
SpiceJet Airlines also stated that safety is the most important concern at SpiceJet and that at no point were its passengers at risk.
Thick fog has affected trains and flights again this season. This incident was reported hours after a Jet Airways 9W 2374 aircraft from Goa-Mumbai with 161 passengers kidded off the runway while aligning to takeoff from Dabolim Airport this morning. Investigation is going on to find the reasons.
