1. Although he never actually won the award, Mahatma Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize 5 times. The committee now regrets not having given him the prize then since the award is never given posthumously.

2. Mahatm Gandhi's funeral procession was 8 kilometers long.

3. Throughout his lifetime Mahatma Gandhi walked/traveled 18 km a day which is enough to walk around the world twice.

4. Gandhiji did not attend Nehru's tryst of destiny speech to celebratae independence. He was in Kolkata fasting for religious harmony.

5. M K Gandhi spoke English with an Irish accent. The reason was that one of his first teachers was Irishman.
