New Delhi : KL Rahul Dropped, Shubman Gill Included In Squad For Test Series Against South Africa. Indian squad for 3-match Test Series against South Africa has been declared. The series will start on October 2. KL Rahul who struggled with his bat in the 2 test in the West Indies has been dropped from the squad while Shubham Gill got his maiden call up in the test side.

Rohit Sharma, who opens in ODI, will don the same role, which was confirmed by the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad. Umesh Yadav also doesn't find a place in the squad as India have pruned their 16-member squad from the West Indies tour to just 15 players for the upcoming series.

There were no other changes in the Indian side for the series. India, which is number 1 in the ICC Test ranking, also leads the points table in the World Test Championship with 120 points after crushing West Indies in both matches.

India had lost to South Africa 1-2 the last time these two teams met in early 2018. India, however, had won the Test series against South Africa at home in 2015. The series was Virat Kohli's first full Test series as captain.

India has had a good run in Test cricket after losing series in South Africa and England. Virat Kohli created history when he led India to a series triumph in Australia. Either side of the Australia tour, India routed the West Indies to assert their domination in the Test format.

Debutants Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari played well against Australia. While Agarwal has been brave as an opener, Vihari had an excellent series in the West Indies and even hit his maiden hundred in Test cricket after falling for 93 in the 1st Test.
