1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Case: Supreme Court To Pass Orders On Thursday

New Delhi: In the 1984 Sikh riots case in Kanpur, the Supreme Court has constituted a new SIT. For the remaining 184 closed cases constituted a new SIT.According to Supervisor panel report it is mentioned that from 239 cases , 186 cases closed without any investigation.In the new SIT Retired IPS officer , Present IPS officers and retired judge are there.On December 6, 2017, the Supreme Court-appointed supervisory panel handed over the report of 241 cases closed by the SIT to the Supreme Court.Now court will decide which action they have to take for this case.
The apex court took this view after getting a report on the SIT investigation into the 1984 Sikh riot cases from two retired SC judges.

When the Centre constituted the SIT in 2014, a total of 293 Sikh riot cases were entrusted to it. That SIT was to examine the necessity of further investigation into them.

Close to 3,000 people were massacred in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that were sparked by the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
