Outperformers in the first few seasons of the IPL [Indian Premier League], the Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] turned a new leaf in 2011. With new auctions and a new mindset at the helm, they completely covered the old ghosts to win the IPL title in 2012 and 2014.
It’s 2017, and Kolkata continues to be one of the strongest teams in the championship, relying on the same set of basis players to take them through. Now placed second in the points table, they have a chance of build up their position further when they take on bottom-placed Gujarat Lions [GL] at Kolkata.
For captain Suresh Raina and team, things have been in acute opposite to their debut season story last year. They finished as the top-ranked team at the end of the league stage, although having a new team and new skipper. The same set of players, however, have been failing to perform this year.
For Kolkata, skipper Gambhir has led the side with tact, both on the field and with the bat (having scored two fifties already). In the previous encounter, the third game of the season, they completely crush the Lions, romping home with a 10-wicket victory. The Lions’ bowling attack is wafer-thin and the problem has been admix further with the absence of Dwayne Bravo to a hamstring injury.
